The timeless debate over who holds the crown between Eminem and Jay-Z just received some fresh commentary from a seasoned insider. Detroit veteran rapper Hush recently sat down on the RogerThatLive podcast to share his unfiltered thoughts on hip-hop royalty. After confidently placing Jay-Z over an elite list of legendary names including Nas, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Drake, Andre 3000, Eazy-E, 50 Cent and Big Daddy Kane, Hush found himself at a crossroads when pressed to choose between Hov and Slim Shady.

Faced with the ultimate comparison, Hush didn’t hesitate to acknowledge the razor-thin margin between the two rap titans, noting how their distinct strengths make it nearly impossible to pick a definitive winner. “That’s a hard one right there. I swear that’s a tie bro. I don’t think Jay can outrap Em. Em’s the GOAT. But Jay-Z got a catalog that it’s very hard to compete,” Hush explained. He then teased the ultimate hip-hop fan dream, adding, “Em and Jay collab album would be sick.”
The conversation quickly shifted to Eminem’s legendary work ethic and historical milestones, prompting Hush to pull back the curtain on one of the most famous posthumous projects in rap history. “Em did Loyal To The Game album for 2Pac. He was commissioned by 2Pac’s mother to produce that. I was there for a lot of songs that he produced,” Hush revealed, recalling his firsthand experience watching the Shady Records mastermind construct the 2004 platinum record.
Hush shared an exclusive, mind-blowing studio memory that showcases Eminem’s creative genius and attention to detail when cutting and pasting Tupac Shakur’s archival vocals. “I was sitting in the studio with Em when he was doing some of those songs. In one of them, he took 2Pac’s vocal and altered it so he said ‘get them Em’. He made ’em to sound like Em. Like Pac was talking to Eminem. And he put it into the song like that. I though that was dope f–king idea to get Pac saying your f–king name in a song. That was cool as f–k,” Hush recounted.
For Hush, who has a deep history with Eminem—including their standout 2005 collaborative track “Hush Is Coming” featuring Nate Dogg, which was produced by Eminem—this specific moment in hip-hop history remains unmatched. Reflecting on the sheer magnitude of the project, Hush concluded with ultimate respect: “To be commissioned for 2Pac’s album, for me, if I’m Eminem, f–k my whole career, that’s the greatest accomplishment for me ever. I got to produce whole 2Pac album? And album was dope!”
