Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has addressed a wide range of questions, including how he plans to use star forwards Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. The new boss expressed his excitement about the attacking options available to him.

“It’s a privilege to have players of that calibre,” Alonso said. “Not just Kylian or Vinicius, but many others. They are game-changers, they make the difference, and we have to get the very best out of them. I have ideas. There’s still time before we gather with them. But for me, it’s very important to have clear communication about what we want. They’re top-level players, and that’s the task I’ve been given.”

Asked about his attacking philosophy, Alonso emphasised the importance of tactical flexibility: “Football is dynamic. I want us to read the game and for the players to operate where they feel most comfortable, where they can best showcase their physical, tactical, and mental attributes… The good thing is having great players. Then, it’s my problem,” he joked.

The 43-year-old also addressed the departure of Luka Modric and the arrival of young centre-back Dean Huijsen: “These things are discussed and agreed upon. Some matters are mine to deal with and others are not, but that’s how it will be. I’m now officially working to make decisions and take responsibility.”

When asked if he had spoken with Rodrygo Goes, Alonso was full of praise for the Brazilian forward. “Rodrygo is a Real Madrid player, and I’ll speak with everyone who belongs to Real Madrid. They deserve it, and we need it. Rodrygo is a spectacular player—we’ll need him.”
