Nikola Jokić is the reason why the latest NBA news is great for all basketball fans in Serbia

For the eighth time, Jokić has been selected to play in the NBA All-Star Game.

And once again—as a starter, in a brand-new format described as a “clash of all basketball superstars”.

From the Western Conference, the starters—chosen by votes from fans, NBA players, and coaches—are Luka Dončić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Stephen Curry, Nikola Jokić, and Victor Wembanyama.

From the Eastern Conference, the starters are Jalen Brunson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Tyrese Maxey, Cade Cunningham, and Jaylen Brown.

How is this “new All-Star” format played?

For the first time in history, the All-Star event will actually consist of four games, and basketball fans here will be cheering for the “Team World.”

Three teams of NBA stars will be formed: two teams of American players and one team of international players, the so-called Team World, which will clearly include Jokić, Shai, Dončić, Wembanyama, Antetokounmpo, and others.

These three teams will play round-robin games against each other. Based on the standings, the two most successful teams will face off once more in a “championship game.”

As before, 24 NBA All-Stars (12 from each conference) will be selected as follows:

Five starters from each conference have already been chosen by fans (50%), current NBA players (25%), and a media panel (25%).

Seven reserves from each conference will be selected by NBA head coaches.

This year, players will be selected regardless of position, and the process of assigning players to the two American teams will be determined later.

The All-Star event takes place on February 15 in Inglewood, California.

This season, Jokić once again has phenomenal numbers. He is currently averaging a triple-double with 29.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 11 assists per game.

In the 2025/2026 season alone, Jokić is set to earn $55,224,526.

Next season, he will earn even more—$59,033,114. But then comes the catch.

Jokić holds a player option to extend his contract. If he does so, he is guaranteed $62,841,702 for the 2027/2028 season. Since he has not yet signed the extension, rumors have begun that he might change teams. Some—like Miami—are hoping for that scenario.
