BREAKING NEWS: Jeanine Pirro’s Alleged Remarks on Brittney Griner Spark Heated Debate as WNBA Faces Controversial New Rule on Gender Testing
The basketball world and social media have been thrown into a whirlwind after online rumors claimed that television host and former judge Jeanine Pirro allegedly made an inflammatory remark toward WNBA star Brittney Griner, referring to her with a derogatory term following what was described as “the truth” about her gender identity.
While these claims have yet to be substantiated by credible news outlets, the viral story has ignited intense discussion – especially because it coincides with a highly controversial announcement from the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). The league recently confirmed that starting next season, it will require mandatory gender verification testing for all players.
The Alleged Pirro Comment
According to unverified online posts and social media screenshots, Pirro allegedly reacted sharply to rumors circulating about Griner’s gender history. The alleged remark – which cannot be confirmed and has not been aired on any official network- has nonetheless been shared widely on Twitter (now X), Facebook, and TikTok.
Pirro, known for her outspoken and sometimes confrontational political commentary, has not officially responded to these viral allegations. Representatives for both Pirro and Griner have remained silent, leaving the public to speculate.
What’s certain is that the controversy comes at a highly sensitive moment for the
WNBA, its players, and the ongoing national conversation around gender identity in sports.
WNBA’s New Policy: Mandatory Gender Verification
In a statement released late Tuesday, the WNBA confirmed that it will implement compulsory biological sex testing for all players beginning with the next season.
The league framed the decision as an effort to maintain “competitive fairness” while also ensuring “clarity in eligibility,” but critics see it as an invasive policy that undermines privacy and dignity.
The statement reads in part:
“The WNBA values inclusion and diversity, but it must also uphold competitive integrity. We believe that establishing a standard verification process is a necessary step in providing transparency for players, fans, and the sport as a whole.”
The policy will reportedly involve medical examinations conducted by independent professionals selected by the league. While the WNBA says results will remain confidential, many observers doubt whether such sensitive information can truly be kept private.
Backlash from Advocacy Groups
LGBTQ+ organizations and human rights advocates have condemned the move, calling it a “deep invasion of personal autonomy.”
“This is a slippery slope toward discrimination,” said Marissa Hall, spokesperson for the nonprofit Equality in Sports. “Policies like this disproportionately target transgender and intersex athletes, sending a message that they don’t belong. It will discourage talented players from even attempting to join the league.”
Former WNBA player and sports commentator Lisa Martin also voiced her disapproval:
“I played in this league for over a decade. I know what it’s like to compete at the highest level, and gender policing was never the answer. If we’re talking about fairness, we should be investing in resources, training, and better pay – not medical tests that humiliate players.”
Supporters Cite “Fair Play” Concerns
However, not everyone is opposed. Some athletes, fans, and commentators argue that the policy is needed to preserve fairness in women’s sports.
Sports radio host Brad Denson remarked, “Like it or not, there are biological differences that impact performance. A clear testing policy removes ambiguity and ensures that everyone is competing on the same playing field.”
This view aligns with several recent legislative pushes in U.S. states that have
introduced or passed laws restricting transgender participation in certain sports categories.
