Prodigy Shouts Out Eminem on Mobb Deep’s New Album

Prodigy Shouts Out Eminem on Mobb Deep’s New Album
Mobb Deep’s long-awaited album “Infinite” dropped with a reference to Eminem on it. It is the duo’s first release since “The Infamous Mobb Deep” in 2014 and their first since Prodigy’s passing in 2017. The 15-track project combines Havoc’s new verses with posthumous vocals from Prodigy, blending unreleased material with fresh production by Havoc and The Alchemist.

Prodigy Name-Drops Eminem on “Pour The Henny”

One track, “Pour The Henny”, reunites Mobb Deep with Nas and features a special moment. In his verse, Prodigy shouts out Eminem, recalling their touring days as a sign of career success:

I lived a full life, don’t cry for me
A real-life king of New York, the top of the heap
I did songs with Mary J. Blige, my nigga
Mariah Carey, Big Pun, and Nas, my nigga
I did tours with Biggie Smalls, my nigga
Eminem, 50 Cent, I did it all, my nigga

This verse serves as a reminder of the deep respect between two hip hop greats who shared the stage in the early 2000s.

Prodigy on Eminem: “A Real Good Dude”

Eminem Snaps at His Haters on Latest Verse

In 2013, during XXL’s Eminem Week, Prodigy spoke warmly about Marshall, sharing his favourite songs, albums, and memories.

Prodigy revealed that his favourite track was “Lose Yourself”. “That’s how I feel every time I write a rhyme. It’s do or die”, he said.

His favourite album was “The Marshall Mathers LP”: “It was something new. He was just wild. His rebelliousness – I can relate to all of that”.

And his favourite memory was meeting Eminem in the studio around 2001. Prodigy recalled how Em stopped writing to greet him, calling Mobb Deep one of his biggest inspirations. “He had words going in every direction – his mind was everywhere, moving a million miles per minute”, Prodigy remembered.

Later, when Mobb Deep toured with Eminem and 50 Cent, Prodigy noticed the same focus and humility in him. But also, Eminem let him know how important Mobb Deep’s music had been for him: “Em was writing a rhyme but when he seen me, he just stopped what he was doing and was like, ‘Yo man, I grew up on Mobb Deep. Ya’ll inspired me. I love ya’ll. I’m one of your biggest fans’”.

Eminem’s Tribute to Prodigy

After Prodigy died in 2017, Eminem shared a freestyle online to honour his legacy, ending with a heartfelt message:

“Rest in peace to Prodigy. We love you, homie. Hip hop loves you. You will forever be missed”.

Honouring a Legacy

No doubt, to record an album like this must be an enormously challenging task. With “Infinite”, Mobb Deep celebrates both the past and future of hip hop. Prodigy’s posthumous shout-out to Eminem, which Havoc decided to keep on the final cut, is not a sign of nostalgia but a reminder of an era defined by respect, craft, and connection between two lyrical heavyweights. Respect that the culture needs today.
