A rumor circulated online in mid-September 2025 claiming that rapper Eminem recorded a tribute song honoring slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

For example, on  Sept. 12, the Facebook page RAP Talk posted (archived) the story, receiving more than 66,000 reactions as of this writing. The post displayed a picture of Eminem as well as photographs of Kirk with his family.

The post read:

“Eminem Breaks His Own Rules: Rap Legend’s Heart-Shattering Tribute to Charlie Kirk After Assassination — A Message to His Daughters That Made the World Cry!

The world expected anger, silence, or even indifference. Instead, it got something no one could have imagined. Eminem — hip-hop’s fiercest anti-MAGA voice — stunned the globe when he set politics aside and delivered a devastatingly human tribute after Charlie Kirk was gunned down mid-speech at Utah Valley University. His words were raw, trembling, and unforgettable: “I hate them, but as a father, Kirk was a great father, and it’s heartbreaking for the two girls to lose their dad too soon.” In one moment, the battle-hardened rapper turned into a grieving father speaking to grieving daughters — and the shockwave of compassion left fans, critics, and even enemies in tears. Social media erupted, calling it “the moment the world stopped to cry together.”

Other Facebook and Instagram users shared the same claim. Some of those posts featured links in top comments leading to advertisement-filled blog posts. Multiple Snopes readers searched our website to verify the rumor.

However, searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo found no news media outlets reporting about Eminem recording a tribute to Kirk. Prominent news media outlets would have widely reported this rumor, if true.

Rather, whoever authored the story fabricated the entire tale as one of hundreds of inspirational tales featuring celebrities. They aimed to earn advertising revenue on websites linked from the aforementioned Facebook posts. As we’ll lay out later in this article, the story about Eminem recording a tribute for Kirk amounted to fiction.

An examination of the RAP Talk page’s stories found multiple indications of artificial intelligence-generated images and text. For example, regarding the picture included in one of the posts, the Sightengine AI-detection website found a 99% probability that someone “likely” generated the image with AI. Signs of AI featured in the photo included overly smooth skin texture and unnatural colors.

These stories all very much resembled glurge, which Dictionary.com defines as “stories, often sent by email, that are supposed to be true and uplifting, but which are often fabricated and sentimental.”

The fabricated story on the advertisement-filled websites started as follows:

The political world and the music world collided in an unexpected moment of grief this week, following the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot during his American Comeback Tour event at Utah Valley University. Kirk, 31, leaves behind his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two young daughters.

While tributes have poured in from political allies and adversaries alike, one message in particular has stunned fans worldwide: Eminem, the Detroit rapper long known for his outspoken criticism of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, publicly sent his condolences to Kirk’s family.

Eminem’s Unexpected WordsIn a statement shared through his team, Eminem wrote:

“I hate them, but as a father, Kirk was a great father, and it’s heartbreaking for the two girls to lose their father too soon.”

Observers note the choice of words reflected Eminem’s honesty — acknowledging his disdain for Kirk’s political ideology while separating it from the human tragedy of a young family losing its father.

There was no record of any such quote being made by Eminem or his representatives. The language, tone and structure of the article also showed signs of AI generation, such as exaggerated, emotional language and vague sourcing.

In addition to the articles and social media posts, YouTube videos of the alleged tribute also helped spread the false claim. Some thumbnails included in these videos showed telltale signs of AI generation, including unnatural and exaggerated facial features.

One video titled “Eminem – Charlie Kirk Home With The Lord | Emotional Tribute Song” had more than 68,000 views as of this writing. But Eminem never released such a song.

A search on the official “EminemMusic” YouTube channel yielded no results indicating such a song ever existed.
