Although the NBA All-Star Weekend is primarily designed as an exhibition and entertainment spectacle, for some players it appears to be something entirely different.

One of them is Kevin Durant, who, ahead of the big event in Los Angeles, publicly called out Nikola Jokić and Luka Dončić, saying they “don’t try hard enough.”

“Look at Luka Dončić and Nikola Jokić — what do they do in All-Star games? You don’t question what they’re doing, but you question us veterans, us Americans. Those two… Luka and Jokić don’t care about the game. They roll around on the floor, shoot from half court, and meanwhile you’re worried about whether we older guys will play hard,” Durant said.

Nikola and Luka responded during the All-Star event — by having fun in their own style.

This year’s All-Star was played in a new format featuring three teams. One of them consisted of non-American players. “Team World” was led by Darko Rajaković, and it was expected that Nikola Jokić and Luka Dončić would be the team’s biggest stars. In any serious competition, that team would likely be the top favorite for the trophy — but not in this setting. Nikola and Luka each spent only about five minutes on the court across two games.

For the most part, they sat on the bench, appearing largely uninterested in the on-court spectacle unfolding before them.
