Former NBA player and champion Mario Chalmers compiled a list of top point guards ever, and shockingly excluded Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry.

There have been several great players who played the point guard position, coming in all different shapes and sizes, fulfilling different archetypes of what the position can be.

Curry is a guard who initiates the offense, looking to create separation and pull a 3-point shot, or draw a defender or two and pass it to the open player.
Winning four NBA titles and revolutionizing the game of basketball with his outrageous 3-point shooting feats, the Davidson product’s greatness is already established.
However, Chalmers does not believe it is enough to crack his Mount Rushmore of point guards.
During the first episode of “No Limit!”, a show by Iman Shumpert, the former Miami Heat and Memphis Grizzlies guard laid out his top point guards.

“See, I got killed the other day when I said this,” Chalmers said on the show. “Just cause I said I’m a Kyrie fan, I had Kyrie up there.
“But my personal, Magic, CP [Chris Paul], John Stockton, I got between Kyrie, cause I’m a Kyrie fan, and then [Jason Kidd], because J Kidd is a real point guard.”
Both Chalmers and Shumpert clashed with Curry in the NBA Finals during their playing days. Considering how he experienced Curry’s greatness firsthand, Chalmers’ exclusion of the guard is interesting.
Iman Shumpert’s Previous Curry Snubs
While Chalmers did the snubbing here, Shumpert has also shaded Curry in the past.
During an appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today, Shumpert was asked to rank three stars in their respective prime seasons: LeBron James in 2016, Curry in 2015, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in 2025.
“We starting Bron, I ain’t gonna lie,” he said.
“Shai, you gonna come off the bench, but we love you though. You know what I’m saying. Steph, you beat me that year. You cut.”
In another example, Shumpert was asked by Shaquille O’Neal on “The Big Podcast,” about whether or not Curry should be included in the Greatest of All Time conversations.
“Technically, yes. Personally, no,” Shumpert said.
