Cristiano Ronaldo Jr gave an interesting response while agreeing with a streamer’s stance that Lamine Yamal is currently better than his father.

The 15-year-old is looking to follow in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s footsteps amid embarking on a football career of his own. The four-cap Portugal U15 international is currently playing as a winger in Al-Nassr’s youth system.

Ronaldo Sr has spent his career asserting that he’s the best in the world by dominating on the pitch and winning countless individual awards. The 40-year-old left his mark at Real Madrid, Manchester United, Sporting CP and Juventus before heading off to the Saudi Pro League.

Cristiano Junior appeared on Twitch streamer Rakai’s stream and the pair got into a discussion about football. The American told the young Portuguese talent that “Lamine Yamal is better than Cristiano Ronaldo.”

The teenage prospect responded:

“Right now? Yeah, Lamine is good, but he hasn’t won anything yet.”

Yamal has become one of Europe’s most admired attacking talents since breaking into Barcelona’s senior team at the age of 15 and 291 days in April 2023. He was a standout performer in the Catalans’ La Liga title win last season, flourishing out wide after a breakout European Championship campaign with Spain.

The 18-year-old starred for La Roja as they prevailed in Germany, winning the Young Player of the Tournament award for his exploits. He is tipped to be the heir of eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and Ronaldo’s longtime rival Lionel Messi at Camp Nou amid his meteoric rise with the Catalan giants.

Ronaldo has already given his verdict on Yamal, and he sees the Barca starlet becoming the greatest player in the world. He spoke last season about who he expects will lead the new generation:

“I think he’ll make it. He will be the best player of this new generation.”

Yamal already has two La Liga titles to his name at the age of 18 and is in the running for the Ballon d’Or award. Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele is the favourite but the 21-cap Spain international is likely to earn a place on the podium for his exploits last season.

Many expected Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland to be battling it out for the coveted French Football award in the aftermath of Ronaldo and Messi’s stranglehold on the Ballon d’Or. But Yamal is proving to be the biggest star of the new era.
