“If ever I fall, I know y’all would catch me,” said the Grammy winner, who was safely lowered to the ground after a scary prop malfunction during her hometown show on Saturday.

Leave it to Beyoncé to handle a flying-car malfunction with grace.
The Grammy winner suffered a scary prop snafu at NRG Stadium in her hometown of Houston on Saturday while belting out a ballad for her latest Cowboy Car concert. The singer was soaring midair — above a crowd of thousands — in her red car when things took an unexpected turn. During her performance of “16 Carriages,” the vehicle that typically hovers above the audience, bringing her closer to them, began to tilt.
Beyoncé, singing from her seat in the car, initially continued the song, but as the car tilted further, she halted the proceedings.

“Stop. Stop, stop, stop, stop,” the singer said into the microphone, per fan-recorded footage of the incident. The music quickly cut out as Beyoncé held onto one of the cables attached to the car. After a long pause, she smiled at the screaming crowd and said, “Thank y’all for your patience.”
She remained suspended in the air for a few more moments before the car was slowly lowered to the ground.
The singer then exited the car and was escorted back to the stage, where she addressed the mishap with a quip. “I wanna thank y’all for loving me,” she told the crowd. “If ever I fall, I know y’all would catch me.” The audience cheered in response before she finished the show with its closing number, “Amen.”
The pop icon’s production company, Parkwood Entertainment, called the incident a “technical mishap” in a statement sent to Entertainment Weekly and shared on her Instagram. Her representatives added that after the malfunction, Beyoncé was “quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident.”

After the concert, Beyoncé took to social media, but she didn’t address the accident directly. Instead, she shared a slideshow of photos on Instagram with the caption, “I love you, Houston.” The last shot in the carousel showed her sitting above the crowd in the tilting red car, moments before it was lowered to the ground.
The Houston performance marked the first of her two shows in her hometown, following a successful run through the U.K. and Europe.
Beyoncé kicked off her Cowboy Carter tour at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 28 with a 39-song set list. The nine-city tour will span the U.S. and Europe, with the grand finale taking place in Las Vegas on July 26.
