Pep Guardiola: “Barcelona has the best young generation since my time! yamal, Gavi, Pedri, Cubarsi , these are treasures to build the team around.

“Barcelona is witnessing the emergence of its most promising young generation since the golden era I once had the privilege to lead. Players like Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedri, and Pau Cubarsí aren’t just talented—they’re the foundation of a future dynasty. These youngsters are more than prospects; they’re pillars on which a great team can be built.
**But let’s be clear—youth alone is not enough. Talent needs structure. Raw potential needs the right environment to flourish. If Barcelona truly wants to return to the summit of European football, here’s what’s still missing:
1. A commanding centre-back.
Think back to Carles Puyol. Since his departure, the back line has lacked a true leader—someone vocal, courageous, and tactically sharp. Íñigo Martínez is dependable, but he needs a partner with presence. A player like Presnel Kimpembe—battle-tested, disciplined, and capable of marshaling the defense. Without this anchor, even the best young defenders can be exposed.
2. An elite left-back.
Alejandro Balde shows great promise, but he’s still developing. What Barça needs is a complete full-back—defensively solid, tactically aware, and dangerous going forward. Someone in the mold of Álex Grimaldo or Miguel Gutiérrez (Guitián)—players who offer both security and attacking width. The defensive lapses seen in Jordi Alba’s later years must not be repeated.
3. A modern, high-IQ striker.
Lewandowski’s experience has been vital, but the future calls for a different profile. Barcelona needs a forward who plays between the lines with intensity and intelligence—like Julián Álvarez. Someone quick, clever, and relentless in the press. A striker who doesn’t just finish chances but initiates the attack—similar to how Messi once operated behind the nine.
And here’s the key: Don’t fall into the trap of chasing big names with inflated price tags. That’s not Barcelona’s identity.
Instead, focus on two or three strategic signings—players who complement the youth, not compete with them. Then, double down on La Masia. Invest in the academy. Give these young stars minutes, patience, and trust.
That’s how we built our golden era. That’s how Barcelona will rise again.
The next Messi won’t be bought—he’ll be born in La Masia. All he needs is time.“
