Rebecca Allen and Angel Reese both played key roles for the Chicago Sky in 2025.
Allen was named to the Unrivaled league roster; Reese was unexpectedly left out.
Fans expressed disappointment over Reese’s omission and support for Allen’s new opportunity.
WNBA veteran Rebecca Allen played alongside Angel Reese for the Chicago Sky this past season. Allen joined the Sky before the season started via a trade deal with the Connecticut Sun. The 6-foot-2 guard-forward played a significant role for Chicago in her first year with the team, averaging 5.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 triples in 18.7 minutes per contest. Allen played in all of the Sky’s 44 games in 2025.
Reese, on the other hand, had another big year. She was named an All-Star for a second season running behind averages of 14.7 points, a league-best 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals. The former LSU Tigers star, however, battled through injuries in her sophomore year and was limited to just 30 games.

Reese nursed a back injury for the better part of the campaign. She missed eight games in the middle of the season. The 6-foot-3 forward was also forced to sit out the final four games of the year due to the back problem.
On Thursday, a big announcement outside the WNBA involved both Reese and Allen. The news came from the Unrivaled league, which revealed the final players for its 48-woman roster for the upcoming second season.
Allen was named as one of the three final players, alongside Indiana Fever guard Aari McDonald and Dominique Malonga of the Seattle Storm.
The big development, however, centered around Reese. The 23-year-old was not included in the roster despite being one of the league’s biggest draws in its highly successful inaugural season in 2025. Reese helped lead her team, Rose BC, to the first-ever Unrivaled title in January.
No official statement has been made by Reese or Unrivaled as to why the Sky star will not be part of the second season. The fans, however, have made it clear that they were not pleased with the decision.
At the same time, supporters have also shown their support for Allen now that she’s landed a new job outside the WNBA. Although the veteran’s inclusion in the 3-on-3 league’s second season was announced on the same day that fans learned Reese would not be participating, it’s not as if Allen took Reese’s place on the roster.
Allen, 32, will be on the second and final season of her contract with the Sky in 2026.
