NFL analyst makes an insanely great point in a Patrick Mahomes debate, but the debate should have never been had in the first place

The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time in Patrick Mahomes; to compare him to Josh Allen simply isn’t right.

The Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen debate continues to rage across the NFL, but NFL Network analyst Jahleel Addae may have settled it with one of the more honest statements you’ll hear.

The 10-year NFL veteran appeared on Good Morning Football and laid out the cold, hard truth about these two quarterbacks and their postseason track records. The question posed was simple: Who will win a Super Bowl sooner, Mahomes or Allen? But the question itself might be the problem.

“When they meet in the playoffs and when it matters, Patrick Mahomes is 4-0 against Josh Allen,” Addae said.

That record speaks for itself. Mahomes already has three Super Bowl titles. Allen has never been to a Super Bowl. Every time they’ve met in the postseason, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has sent Allen home. That’s not a rivalry. That’s dominance.

The question itself isn’t fair to either quarterback

Framing this as a race to the next Super Bowl does a disservice to both players. Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He’s probably a top-three quarterback ever, and he’s the greatest of his generation. Comparing him to Allen as if they’re in the same tier of postseason accomplishment ignores what Mahomes has already built.

Allen is one of the most talented quarterbacks the league has ever seen. Nobody is arguing that. But talent alone doesn’t win championships. Even last season, when Mahomes and the Chiefs weren’t in the postseason picture, Allen still couldn’t get it done. That’s the part of this conversation that gets lost. It’s not always about Mahomes standing in Allen’s way. Sometimes Allen and the Buffalo Bills just can’t finish.

The real question should be about Allen, not about both of them

The better framing here is simple: will Mahomes bounce back after a down season and win another Super Bowl before Allen gets his first? That’s the honest version of this debate. Asking which one will “get one sooner” implies they’re starting from the same place. They aren’t. Mahomes has three rings. Allen has zero Super Bowl appearances.

Allen also faces a transitional year in Buffalo. Joe Brady, his former offensive coordinator, is set to take over as head coach. The Bills have pieces coming in and out. That kind of roster and coaching turnover doesn’t typically lead to a championship run.

Mahomes has his own challenges heading into the season, too. Kansas City will look different. But if we’ve learned anything about Mahomes, it’s that counting him out after a bad stretch is a losing bet.

The answer to whether Mahomes will win a Super Bowl before Allen gets his first one feels obvious. Mahomes has already done it three times. Allen hasn’t done it once. Until that changes, comparing the two as equals in this conversation just doesn’t hold up.
