“You’re asking me to choose between my two rap dads?!” It’s the question that’s sparked debates in barbershops, Twitter threads, and dorm rooms for years: Eminem or Lil Wayne? And now, Big Sean — Detroit’s own and a lyrical heavyweight in his own right — has finally weighed in. But not without first making it very, very clear: this isn’t an easy choice. “That’s like asking me to pick a parent,” Sean laughed during a recent podcast appearance on Rap Radar. “Come on, man… Em raised me lyrically. But Wayne? He raised everybody.”
The answer may surprise you.

Big Sean was faced with a difficult decision when he was asked to pick between his two favorite rappers, Eminem and Lil Wayne.
In an interview with Uproxx, Sean Don covered a wide array of topics. However, he became immediately stressed out when he was forced to choose between Tunechi and fellow Detroit rap legend Eminem. After listening to Em’s “Lose Yourself” and Weezy’s “A Milli,” Sean admitted he had to ultimately side with Em.
“It’s crazy. Eminem and Lil Wayne — the impact they’ve both had on me, how they both gone out their way for me,” Sean recalled. “8 Mile just inspired me crazy but so did ‘A Milli,’ dog. When [Lil Wayne] dropped ‘A Milli,’ it was unbelievable.”
Sean Don then reminisced about both rappers impacts on his career, shouting out Wayne’s verse on “Deep” and his “Detroit vs. Everybody” collab with Slim Shady.
“I take it personal, I take the music personal,” Sean continued. “This is a tough one. I really want to choose both. If I just had to choose right now, I’m gonna go with Em.”
