Patrick Mahomes made a controversial culinary choice — and fans are reacting.

The 30-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback posted a new spot for Adidas on Wednesday, Nov. 26, in which Mahomes sits down for a Thanksgiving dinner in the dramatically-lit ad. “Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks, return home, see family and meet new friends,” he says as he gets ready to dig in.

“Thanksgiving….is a time to eat,” Mahomes tells viewers as his plate, a turkey leg that he’s dousing in ketchup, takes over the screen.

“From Patrick Mahomes, Happy Thanksgiving,” text reads as the video concludes. Immediately after it went up, viewers were quick to question Mahomes’ use of ketchup.

“I don’t know about the ketchup Pat, but I know we got to win tomorrow! Let’s go Chiefs!!! 😍,” one user wrote in the comments on Instagram.

“Bro ketchup on the turkey?😂 come on man,” another fan said.

A fan on X said, “NO ONE loves ketchup more than Patrick,” in response to the video.

Mahomes has always been open about his love for ketchup, so it’s likely he’ll actually be topping his turkey with the condiment after the Chiefs take on the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

In a past interview with Barstool Sports, Mahomes said he’s gotten “a lot better” about putting ketchup on everything as he gets “older.”

“When I was younger, I used to eat ketchup sandwiches, just bread and ketchup” he shared, admitting “it is disgusting,” even though he’d eat the snack “every other day” as a kid.

The quarterback said the two things he likely won’t stop putting ketchup on, however, is mac and cheese and steak. “I’m from Texas,” he told Barstool. “If I’m going to order the expensive steak, I want it the way I want it.”

In fact, Mahomes said he’s tried putting ketchup on “all things that are healthy” just to see what it’d taste like. When it came to spinach, Mahomes advises, “It wasn’t the best.”

Mahomes and the Chiefs will suit up for their Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys at 4:30 p.m. ET.
