An eight-year-old Indiana boy whose brave fight with leukemia sparked friendships with Golden State’s Stephen Curry as well as other sports heroes has died after a years-long fight with leukemia.
Brody Stephens’ father tells the Indianapolis Star his son died Saturday of a viral complication.
Brody was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia as an infant. He fought it off, but cancer returned in 2015.

Brody and his idol, Warriors’ Steph Curry, became fast friends when the NBa star visited the brave little fighter in the hospital in November

Curry shows something on his cell phone to Brody; the two spent an hour together
As he underwent repeated hospitalizations and a bone marrow transplant, Brody was visited by his heroes, including Curry and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, tight end Jack Doyle and coach Chuck Pagano.
Golden State flew Brody to California last month to serve as ball boy, attend the team’s shoot-around and Coach Steve Kerr’s pre-game press conference.
Brody’s father, Jason Stephens, says his son was a ‘very special kid that inspired everyone that knew him.’

Brody had no idea that the star was coming to visit and had all of his Curry paraphernalia out in his room as he usually does

Brody, with his dad Jason, left, knows how to handle the ball like a pro and video of him dribbling in the hospital hallway went viral
‘I’m glad I got to meet him, spend some time with him. Hopefully bring a little joy for him and his family these past few months,’ Curry said Monday.
It all started when WFNI-1070 AM host Dan Dakich started tweeting about Brody, reported the Indy Star.
That put the little boy on the radar of the Warriors, and Curry and the team arranged to surprise him at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in November.
A video of Brody expertly dribbling a basketball in the hospital’s hallway went viral.
When Curry first walked into the room, Brody was speechless for a few minutes. Curry chatted with the boy for an hour.

‘Everybody in the room that has known Brody knows that this is his wish,’ said Jason of his son’s meeting with Curry
Curry signed all of Brody’s NBA trading cards and his Number 30 jersey.
‘Brody had gone through hell and back many times already in his life and for that hour and a half, his brothers, his mom, myself and I think even the nurses, we just got to forget about it for a while,’ said Brody’s father, Jason Stephens. ‘Everybody in the room that has known Brody knows that this is his wish.’

‘I’m glad I got to meet him, spend some time with him,’ the baller said of Brody
‘I had the easy part, showing up and getting to know Brody,’ Curry said at the time. “And hopefully giving him a lasting memory for a long time. We had a great time.’
Curry began wearing black-and-orange BrodyStrong wrist bands during his games.
Brody also befriended Pacers guard Glenn Robinson III and he also received a letter fro LeBron James.
The Warriors has said it will honor Brody during the playoffs.
The family wants everyone to know that Brody did not die of leukemia, but of a viral complication, because ‘he will always be 2 wins and 0 losses against leukemia!’ said his father, Jason.
