Memphis Bleek recently sat down for an interview where he addressed people questioning his unwavering loyalty to Jay-Z. During the conversation, he also opened up about why he never considered signing with other labels, like 50 Cent’s G-Unit, back in the day.

In the clip, Bleek responds directly to the idea of being “too loyal” to someone.
“I don’t know how you can be ‘too loyal,’ especially if that loyalty is mutual,” Bleek explained. “I don’t know any other way to be. I don’t know any other person I would turn to. What did they want me to do? Go sign with another artist and say, ‘Yo, I’m part of this crew now’? That would never happen.”
He continued by saying that once Roc-A-Fella ended, he felt no desire to keep chasing music deals elsewhere.

“When Roc-A-Fella died, I didn’t chase music because what was I supposed to do? Go be G-Unit? Go join some other camp? Never. If it wasn’t Roc-A-Fella, it was nothing for me.”
The interviewer also pointed out that Bleek was one of the few artists from that era who never seemed to chase clout or attention when things slowed down.
“Oh no,” Bleek responded. “We were always lit, even as kids. Growing up in Brooklyn, you have to remember—Brooklyn is like a city in itself, even bigger than Manhattan in some ways. Once you were known in neighborhoods like Starrett City, Crown Heights, Coney Island—you were good. You didn’t need anything else.”
