Coco Jones and Donovan Mitchell are getting ready to tie the knot.
The Grammy-winning singer, 28, and the Cleveland Cavaliers player, 29, announced their engagement in July 2025 after two years of dating, and Jones tells PEOPLE the romantic moment was “indescribable.”
“I think about my life so much like business, and I’m like, ‘Girl, you got to stop. This is the biggest contract I’ve ever signed.’ You know what I’m saying? This is a real-life, forever commitment,” she says. “I talk about forever, I sing about forever, and then I’m like, ‘Oh, this really forever. Okay, word up, word up.’”

The “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” artist feels “a mix of emotions” about the major life development. “It’s exciting, it’s intimidating and it’s just powerful,” adds Jones.
The NBA player attended a couple of Jones’ shows last year, and she stepped out to a couple of his games. They’re both dedicated to work, which she appreciates in the relationship.
“It’s a blessing to have somebody who also gives a lot to their career and to their brand,” says Jones. “Sometimes in friendships, I’d be like, ‘I’m so sorry. I just gave all of myself, and I ain’t got anything else.’ And I feel like sometimes people don’t understand that. They’re like, ‘Girl, what? You’re doing your job. I’m doing my job. What are you talking about?’”
According to Jones, it’s one of the main reasons they work as a couple. “We both go really hard for the things we love, and they’re demanding careers,” she explains. “I feel like we speak a different language that makes me really feel seen. And he’s my biggest cheerleader, so I feel like I’m never able to doubt myself in his presence. It’s just not going down like that.”
Between releasing her debut album Why Not More? last year, touring the world and recently earning her eighth Grammy nomination, it’s hard to imagine when Jones would have time to plan a wedding. “I’ll make that time. Stop playing with me,” she insists. “That will get done, okay?”
“I think about it quite often, honestly,” adds Jones, whose engagement to Mitchell was announced with an overhead video of the proposal shared to his Instagram at the time.
But don’t expect their wedding to feature anything you’ve seen from ceremonies circulating on the internet. “I feel like a lot of the things that I see on TikTok are specifically for TikTok, and I’m not trying to do a viral wedding,” says the “ICU” performer.
In fact, you might not even see much of the wedding online. “If it was up to me, y’all wouldn’t know,” exclaims Jones. “But I have to give a little because that ain’t right. It’s mostly going to be private and intimate and with a sprinkle of sharing is caring.”
